Frequently Asked Questions

What is the parking situation like for the gallery?

While we don't have dedicated spots for the gallery, ample street-metered parking runs along South Michigan Avenue between Cermak and 25th Street. The numbered streets running east and west are designated permit parking for residents. If you are lucky, you might find free parking as you go south along Indiana Avenue across the street from McCormick Place Convention Center. We also recommend that you check Spot Hero for other paid parking options. Contact the gallery if you still require parking assistance, and we will gladly help you.

What is the nearest "El" train stop to your gallery?

The closest El stop is at Cermak/McCormick Place, off the Green line. We recommend taking the 23rd Street exit (south exit) and walking east along 23rd Street to South Michigan Avenue. The gallery is across South Michigan Avenue and to the left of the crosswalk.

Can I buy art from previous shows at the gallery?

Yes. We keep select works from previous shows in our inventory for patrons to acquire. Please check out our Artsy profile to view select pieces available from our gallery or visit our website to check out the archive of shows we have exhibited since 2019. If an artist or a specific piece of work catches your eye, please email info@flxst.com. Not all works of art from past shows are available, but all the catalogs from those shows are. Should you like to acquire artwork, we will send you a a digital invoice once you are ready.

Can I buy work from the current exhibition?

Of course! Keep in mind that work acquired during exhibitions that are currently ongoing must be kept in the show until the show ends. You may acquire any pieces from the current exhibits at any time during the show's duration—please email info@flxst.com for inquiries. Once you've decided on a piece of art, we will send you a digital invoice. The digital invoice allows you to pay consumers using all available methods—the invoice will include shipping costs (if you are not local to Chicago).

I live outside the United States. Do you ship internationally?

Yes! We ship internationally. If you live internationally and are interested in acquiring a piece, we will work with you to find the best method of transport for the artwork.

Do you offer installment payments?

We do. We have partnered with Art Money to offer collectors interest-free payment plans spread across 10 months. We encourage collectors, especially those just starting their collecting practice or folks who would rather break the cost of higher-priced works into reasonable payments over time, to use Art Money to finance their acquisitions. Art Money performs a soft credit check to qualify, which does not affect your credit score. Please let us know if you would like to pay with Art Money, and we can help you with the process. To learn more about Art Money, visit their website.

What payment methods can I use?

Our digital invoices allow you to pay with a check, all major credit cards, PayPal, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. We encourage you to acquire a cashier's check if you prefer to pay with cash. We accept personal checks after you have already acquired pieces from the gallery. That said, the digital invoice allows payment using e-check via ACH transfers.

Do you accept cryptocurrency?

Yes, we do. We accept Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, and Stable Tokens. If you would like to use these crypto or other flavors of cryptocurrency not listed above, please email info@flxst.com. Remember that you will be responsible for all the transaction's crypto fees, including gas fees. We can walk you through paying with cryptocurrency.

Do you provide other services for art collectors?

If you want to diversify your art-collecting practice or begin collecting with an inclusive framework, we are happy to help. If you are interested in our art advisory services, please email info@flxst.com.

Are you on social media?

We are on Instagram and have a dedicated Facebook page. Our social media profiles feature announcements and news about our current shows. However, nothing can replace the plethora of information on our website: www.flxst.com. We also publish at least two newsletters per month. If you want to sign up for the newsletter, please use the form on our CONTACT page.

By the way, how is your gallery's name pronounced?

In whatever way you want! The name is spelled intentionally without vowels. We love hearing the variety of pronunciations, as we think the diversity of ways people have said it thus far is a lovely metaphor for the inclusive art programming we strive to produce. Whether you pronounce it "FLUXIST" or "FLUX Street," we will leave it up to you. The art represented by our gallery and the artists we support are far more important than pronouncing the silly combination of consonants. We remind folks that "the art matters the most." The gallery director likes “FLUX-IST,” but sometimes they can be heard saying “FLUHXST.” No one will bat an eyelash if you pronounce the name of the gallery your own way.

Do you accept solicitations from artists?

We do not. If you send us a proposal and wonder why the gallery isn’t responding, do not think the radio silence is because of you.

What do you recommend for (EMERGING) artists who want to show at your gallery or other spaces?

Keep making thoughtful and fantastic work. Enter calls for art submissions or even benefit auctions. There are a lot of resources online to help you find galleries with open calls or juried competitions. Being a working artist and a successful one is not easy. Perseverance goes a long way and does kindness. We encourage you to find a community of artists or artist mentors to help you navigate the art world. Ultimately, your work will speak for you. Also, know the gallery’s art programming. Does your art practice align with the gallery? Please do your due diligence. Avoid asking for a portfolio review at art openings. Show up at openings and be present.

Is your gallery wheelchair accessible and LGBTQ+ friendly?

Yes. An elevator on the first floor will take you to the second floor, where the gallery is located. If you need assistance, we are more than happy to help. And yes, the gallery is definitely LGBTQ+ friendly.

Is your gallery a commercial gallery or a nonprofit? Are the works in the shows for sale?

We are an LGBTQ—and Asian-American-owned commercial fine art gallery. All of the artwork in the current exhibitions is for sale, and we also carry art from previous shows. Just ask.

Do you have a COVID-19 policy?

We monitor the Chicago Public Health Department's guidelines and recommendations. While we would never tell you to take your mask off, as of the writing of this FAQ, masks are optional. We encourage you to get vaccinated or wear a mask if you feel it necessary. We are constantly disinfecting areas where people are most prone to touch. And we have a healthy supply of hand sanitizers. All our staff are vaccinated multiple times, though some continue to remain masked.
